Faye Duncan has been a lifelong reader of fiction. Among her favorite authors are Paul Auster, Dostoyevsky, Virginia Woolf, William Faulkner, Ursula LeGuin, Valeria Luiselli, Olga Grushin, J.R.R. Tolkien, Toni Morrisson, Mary Austin, and many more. The weird mélange of genres shows that Faye does not have a genre of preference; the magic that happens to her when she reads is an emotional transformation through the author’s voice, which can result in month-long to lifelong plunges into one of those authors’ works. These plunges are sometimes difficult to come out of, as Faye’s revolving fascination with Paul Auster’s works has shown. While she was able to put away his books for many years, her more recent fascination with the dystopic genre has brought her right back to where she started, and a renewed Paul Auster reading frenzy has begun.
